The OSG 1005201008 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal threads in aluminum and cast iron. It produces a 7/16-14 UNC right-hand thread and is built from powdered metal with a TiCN coating for improved wear resistance and tool life in demanding materials. The bottoming chamfer style allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. With 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, this tap suits precision machine tapping operations where tight tolerances are required. It belongs to OSG Series 10052 and is intended for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines by machinists and toolroom professionals.
This tap is suited for production and job-shop environments where aluminum and cast iron are common workpiece materials. Its straight flute geometry works well in short-chipping materials, and the bottoming chamfer makes it the correct choice when threads must extend to the full depth of a blind hole. The TiCN coating reduces built-up edge in aluminum applications and extends tool life compared to uncoated alternatives. It is a machine tap, not a hand tap, and is intended for use with a tapping head or rigid tapping cycle on a machine tool.
Rated for use in aluminum and cast iron workpieces. Designed for machine tapping applications in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines using standard 7/16-14 UNC thread specifications.
This tap is intended for installation and operation by qualified machinists using a tapping head, rigid tapping cycle, or tapping attachment — not for hand tapping. Ensure the machine spindle speed and feed rate are set appropriately for the workpiece material before use. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound compatible with the workpiece material to protect the coating and maintain thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if cutting edges are degraded.
