The OSG 1005113008 is a straight flute machine tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in hardened steel and alloy steel. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing the tap to cut closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap while still providing moderate lead-in guidance. Five flutes deliver rigidity and chip control in demanding materials. The TiCN coating increases surface hardness and lubricity, reducing heat buildup and extending tool life in tough ferrous alloys. The powdered metal substrate provides a finer grain structure than standard HSS, contributing to edge retention under high-load threading conditions.
