The OSG 1005110808 is a straight flute machine tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in hardened steel and alloy steel. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, making it suited for threading holes where the tap must reach close to the bottom without a full spiral-point lead. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal for improved wear resistance and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) to reduce friction and extend tool life in demanding materials. With 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, it holds tight dimensional tolerances consistent with a 2B class of fit. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals use this tap in production and repair applications.
This tap is intended for machine tapping operations on hardened steel and alloy steel workpieces. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes while still providing enough lead to start cleanly. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses with tapping attachments, or manual tapping machines where controlled feed and speed are maintained. The straight flute geometry is well suited for through-hole and short blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is managed by the operator or coolant flow.
Designed as an OEM-style machine tap for 8-32 UNC threaded holes in hardened steel and alloy steel workpieces, part of OSG Series 10051.
Machine tapping should be performed by qualified machinists following established speeds and feeds for powdered metal taps in the target material. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap to prevent breakage. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil compatible with the workpiece material. Never reverse a tap under power without a reversing tapping head or synchronized CNC cycle.
