The OSG 1000100 is a straight flute plug tap designed to cut 0-80 UNF internal threads in a wide range of metals. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features 2 flutes and a plug chamfer to guide thread engagement at the start of the hole. The H1 thread limit holds tight tolerances for 3B class-of-fit threads. Overall length is 1-5/8 inches, with a thread length of 5/16 inches and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. Right-hand thread direction is standard. This tap is suited for machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance professionals working in production or repair environments.
The 1000100 is used in applications requiring precise 0-80 UNF threads in small-diameter through-holes or blind holes. Its straight flute geometry works best in shorter-chipping materials. Rated material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for both starting threads in through-holes and threading most of a blind hole where entry guidance is needed. It belongs to OSG Series 102.
Designed for tapping 0-80 UNF threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Fits standard tap holders and chucks sized for a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Machinists and maintenance technicians should use the correct tap drill size for 0-80 UNF threads before tapping to ensure proper thread form and tool life. Secure the workpiece and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole to prevent tap breakage, which is a significant risk at this small diameter. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil suited to the workpiece material before and during the tapping operation. For blind holes, clear chips frequently to prevent packing and tap fracture.
