The OSG 0136708 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal 10-24 UNC threads in a range of ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding tapping operations. The 45-degree helix angle drives chips up and out of the hole efficiently, making this tap well suited for blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. At 2-3/8 inches overall length and a bottoming chamfer, it reaches close to the bottom of a drilled hole to produce full threads with minimal relief. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is rated for use in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The 2B/3B class of fit covers the most common general-purpose and precision thread fit requirements in UNC fastener applications. It is well suited for production machining, repair work, and maintenance environments where a reliable, coated HSS tap is needed in smaller thread sizes. The H3 thread limit provides controlled oversize tolerance to account for spring-back in tougher alloys.
Designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tapping chucks and holders accepting the shank diameter of this Series 303 tap.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using a tapping chuck, drill press, or CNC machine with appropriate speed and feed settings for the workpiece material. Ensure the drilled tap hole is the correct minor diameter for 10-24 UNC before starting. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil, particularly when working stainless steel, to reduce heat and prevent galling. Power down the machine completely before changing or inspecting the tap.
