The OATEY COMPANY 42725 is a 2-inch male LPS polypropylene backwater device designed to prevent flooding caused by drain backups in floor drain systems. The unit includes a polypropylene ball sealing ring that blocks reverse flow when drainage backs up, then allows normal flow to resume once conditions clear. Constructed entirely of polypropylene, this backwater device resists corrosion and chemical exposure common in residential and light commercial drain environments. It is installed by licensed plumbers during new construction or as a retrofit solution in existing drain assemblies.
This backwater device is intended for use with 1-piece floor drains or similar drain bodies that feature a 2-inch LPS female threaded throat. It is appropriate for residential basements, utility rooms, and light commercial spaces where floor drains are at risk of sewage or stormwater backup. The male LPS threaded connection allows direct engagement into the drain throat without additional adapters in compatible installations.
Designed for use in 1-piece floor drains or similar drain bodies with a 2-inch LPS female threaded throat.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off or isolate the drain system and ensure the drain body is dry and clean before threading in the device. Hand-tighten first, then use appropriate pliers or a strap wrench to seat the male LPS threads fully without overtightening polypropylene fittings. Verify free movement of the ball sealing ring after installation to confirm the check mechanism operates correctly.
