The OATEY COMPANY 39016 is a Sure Vent air admittance valve (AAV) designed for use in drain, waste, and vent (DWV) plumbing systems. It uses advanced sealing technology to allow air into the drain system when negative pressure develops, preventing siphoning of trap seals without requiring a traditional open vent through the roof. The 39016 solvent welds to 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch PVC pipe using the supplied adapter and also threads into a 2 inch female iron pipe (FIP) adapter. It meets NSF Standard 14, ASSE 1050, and ASSE/ANSI 1051 compliance requirements for plastic DWV components, and exceeds the ASSE 1050/51 positive pressure rating threshold.
This AAV is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing applications where extending a vent stack through the roof is impractical or not permitted by the authority having jurisdiction. Common install scenarios include island sinks, remodeled bathrooms, basement fixtures, and other locations where a conventional vent tie-in is difficult to run. The valve is installed at or above the drain fixture connection and functions passively without mechanical actuation. Licensed plumbers handle AAV installation in most jurisdictions.
Designed for use with 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch PVC DWV pipe systems. Compatible with both solvent weld PVC fittings and 2 inch female iron pipe threaded connections using the supplied adapter.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC) provisions governing air admittance valves. The AAV must be installed in an accessible location at a minimum height above the fixture drain as required by the applicable code. Shut off water supply and ensure the drain system is not under pressure before cutting into existing DWV piping. Do not install in an airtight enclosure, as the valve requires access to the surrounding air space to function correctly.
