The OATEY 740-1 is a 1-1/2 inch New York style P-trap finished in chrome, designed for drain line applications in residential and light commercial plumbing systems. Built to IPS (Iron Pipe Size) standards and formed from 17-gauge material, this trap provides the structural integrity and clean appearance expected in exposed drain installations. NY style traps are characterized by their deep-seal, low-profile geometry, making them a common choice where standard P-trap depth clearance is limited. Licensed plumbers and journeymen plumbers install this fitting during rough-in and trim-out phases of bathroom and kitchen sink drain work.
This trap is used in sink drain assemblies where a 1-1/2 inch IPS connection is required. It is well suited for residential bathroom vanities, utility sinks, and light commercial lavatories where the drain piping may be visible and a chrome finish is preferred for aesthetics and corrosion resistance. The 17-gauge wall thickness provides durability over standard lighter-gauge decorative traps. This part is also cross-referenced with Keeney 455XFPC, making it a direct substitute in applications where that part was previously specified.
Cross-referenced as a replacement for Keeney 455XFPC. Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for 1-1/2 inch IPS drain trap applications in residential and light commercial plumbing systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and clear standing water from the drain line before removing the existing trap. Hand-tighten slip-joint nuts first, then snug with slip-joint pliers — do not overtighten chrome-plated fittings as this can crack the finish or distort the trap body. After installation, run water and inspect all joints for leaks before closing access.
