The OATEY 3713 is a swage tool designed for expanding copper tubing from 3/8 inch through 3/4 inch inside diameter. Swaging allows a technician to expand one tube end so it accepts the next section of tubing for a solderless mechanical joint or a prepped solder connection, eliminating the need for a separate coupling fitting. This tool is standard equipment for HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing technicians working with soft or hard-drawn copper tube. At 0.7 pounds, it is compact and light enough for field use in tight mechanical rooms or overhead installations.
The 3713 is used wherever copper tube joints must be made without added fittings, including residential HVAC refrigerant line sets, hydronic heating distribution piping, and potable water supply systems. Plumbers and HVAC technicians reach for a swage tool when making repairs or new installations that require tube-to-tube connections in copper. The 3/8 to 3/4 inch range covers the most common residential and light-commercial tube sizes encountered in the field.
Designed for use with standard copper tubing in the 3/8 inch to 3/4 inch inside diameter range, as commonly found in residential and light-commercial HVAC refrigerant lines, hydronic systems, and plumbing supply piping.
This tool is used by licensed HVAC technicians and plumbers. On refrigeration or HVAC systems, recover all refrigerant and depressurize the system before cutting or swaging any tubing. On plumbing systems, shut off the water supply and relieve line pressure before beginning work. Ensure tube ends are cut square and deburred before swaging to produce a clean, leak-free joint. All work must comply with applicable local plumbing codes and, for refrigerant systems, EPA Section 608 regulations.
