The OATEY 30013 is a No. 5 paste flux formulated for soldering copper and other common metals in plumbing, HVAC, and light mechanical applications. It combines a strong cleaning agent with fluxing action, allowing it to remove surface oxidation and prepare the joint in a single step. The formula is 100 percent lead free, making it suitable for potable water systems where lead-containing materials are prohibited. Supplied in a 4 oz container, it is the standard shop-and-van size used by plumbers and HVAC technicians for everyday sweat-joint work.
This paste flux is used in residential and commercial plumbing installations wherever copper tubing is joined by soldering. Typical applications include water supply lines, drain-waste-vent rough-in, hydronic piping, and refrigerant-side copper work where paste flux is appropriate. It is effective on copper, brass, and most common metals. It is not intended for use on aluminum, magnesium, or stainless steel.
Designed for use on copper, brass, and most common metals. Not suitable for aluminum, magnesium, or stainless steel surfaces.
Paste flux is applied by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician before sweating copper joints with a torch and appropriate solder. Clean the pipe end and fitting socket mechanically before applying flux, then spread a thin, even coat over the mating surfaces. Work in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC and local amendments. After soldering, wipe residual flux from the joint while still warm to reduce the risk of long-term corrosion.
