The OATEY 15-427 is an oil-based thread sealant compound, commonly known as pipe dope, designed for use on metal pipe and fitting threads across a wide range of plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC applications. The grey-colored, non-hardening formula applies with a natural bristle brush and delivers a tight, leak-free seal on black iron, galvanized steel, copper, brass, and aluminum pipe and fittings. It is pressure rated to 250 psi for liquid service and 200 psi for air and steam service, and it performs across a temperature range of 0 degrees F to 350 degrees F, with cold-weather application down to -15 degrees F.

This compound is suited for residential and commercial mechanical systems where a reliable, reusable thread seal is required. Compatible service lines include natural gas, air, steam, hydronic heating, ammonia, brine, diluted acids, and fire sprinkler systems.
