The OATEY 14030 is a purple-tinted PVC primer formulated to prepare PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings for solvent cementing. Applied before the solvent cement step, it penetrates and softens the pipe surface to allow the cement to form a proper fusion bond. The purple dye provides a visible inspection indicator, confirming that primer was applied as required by many local plumbing codes. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this product in new construction and repair work on pressure and drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems.
This primer is used in residential and light commercial plumbing applications where PVC or CPVC pipe joints must meet code-required priming before cementing. Typical install scenarios include potable water supply lines, irrigation systems, and DWV assemblies. The one-quart container is sized for moderate-volume jobs and service work where a full gallon is unnecessary.
Designed as an OEM-style solvent-weld primer for use on PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings in standard pressure and DWV plumbing systems.
Application is performed by licensed plumbers following IPC and local plumbing code requirements for solvent-welded joints. Shut off and depressurize the line before working on any existing piping. Apply primer with the dauber to both the pipe end and the fitting socket, allow brief flash-off as directed on the container label, then apply solvent cement immediately. Work in a ventilated area; primer contains flammable solvents.
