The NVENT 615840UPC is a copper bonded ground rod designed for grounding electrode installations in electrical systems. It features a high carbon steel core clad with 99.9% pure electrolytic copper, delivering both the mechanical strength needed for driven installations and the corrosion resistance required for long-term soil contact. Measuring 5/8 inch in diameter and 4 feet in length, this ground rod is suited for residential and light commercial grounding applications where a compact rod meets code requirements. Licensed electricians and grounding contractors are the primary installers.
This ground rod is used in grounding electrode systems for residential service entrances, light commercial electrical installations, and supplemental ground electrode applications. The 5/8 inch by 4 foot dimension fits applications where soil conditions, burial depth, or local code amendments allow a shorter rod than the standard 8-foot length. It is driven vertically into the earth and connected to the grounding electrode conductor to provide a low-impedance fault current path to ground.
Designed as an OEM-style grounding electrode for use with standard ground rod clamps and acorn-style grounding connectors sized for 5/8 inch ground rods in residential and light commercial electrical grounding systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 250 and applicable local electrical codes. De-energize all circuits before making grounding electrode conductor connections. Use a ground rod driver with a rotary hammer or manual driving tool to seat the rod; avoid striking the rod end directly with a sledgehammer in a way that mushrooms the copper cladding. The rod should be driven to the required burial depth per the governing electrical code before the grounding electrode conductor is clamped and secured.
