The NU-CALGON NUCAL-4217-12 is a cork-based self-adhesive insulation tape engineered for thermal and acoustic management on refrigerant and cold-water piping. The tape insulates cold pipes to reduce condensation buildup and retards heat gain, while also limiting heat loss on hot pipes. Its cork composition makes it an effective sound-dampening material and suitable for gasketing applications. The adhesive bonds to dry metal surfaces without drying out over time, and the tape remains flexible without shrinking or melting across a service temperature range of -20 degrees F to 200 degrees F. HVAC technicians and refrigeration service pros are the primary installers.
This tape is used across residential and commercial applications wherever pipe insulation or condensation control is needed. Common uses include suction line insulation on residential and automotive air conditioning systems, refrigerator and freezer piping, and cold-water plumbing lines in humid environments. Its flexibility makes it well suited for wrapping irregular fittings, valves, and short pipe runs where rigid foam insulation is impractical. The tape also serves as a gasket material in low-pressure, low-temperature applications where cork compression characteristics are acceptable.
Designed for use on cold and hot piping in residential and automotive air conditioning systems, refrigerators, freezers, and general HVAC refrigerant piping where flexible cork insulation tape is required.
Installation is typically performed by HVAC technicians or refrigeration service technicians. Ensure the pipe surface is clean and completely dry before applying the tape, as moisture will prevent proper adhesion. Wrap the tape in a spiral overlap pattern for full coverage and press firmly along the length to ensure full contact with the substrate. Power down or isolate the refrigeration or HVAC system before working on suction or liquid lines to avoid contact with pressurized refrigerant.
