The NU-CALGON 4720-12 is a horizontal-mount condensate neutralizer designed to raise the pH of acidic condensate produced by high-efficiency, fuel-fired equipment. Condensate from modulating furnaces, boilers, and tankless water heaters typically falls below a pH of 6.0, making it corrosive to cast-iron drains and municipal sewer systems. This unit handles appliance condensate flow up to 1.9 gallons per hour and is rated for systems up to 500,000 BTU/h. The refillable tank design gives technicians a cost-effective serviceability option, while the included throwaway canister provides an alternative single-use configuration. Licensed HVAC and plumbing contractors are the primary installers.
The 4720-12 is built for residential and light-commercial applications where high-efficiency, fuel-fired equipment generates acidic condensate requiring treatment before drain discharge. Compatible equipment types include condensing boilers, high-efficiency fuel-fired furnaces, and tankless water heaters. The unit mounts horizontally and connects via 3/8-inch female NPT fittings on two inlets, making it straightforward to tie into existing condensate drain lines. The integrated submersible self-priming pump flows up to 74 gallons per hour at free flow and 32 gallons per hour at 20 feet of head, supporting a range of drainage configurations.
Designed for use with condensing boilers, high-efficiency fuel-fired furnaces, and tankless water heaters generating acidic condensate, with a maximum appliance condensate flow rating of 1.9 gph and a system capacity up to 500,000 BTU/h.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed HVAC technician or plumber. Shut off the appliance and isolate the condensate drain line before making connections. Connections are 3/8-inch female NPT; use appropriate thread sealant rated for acidic condensate service. Verify local plumbing code requirements for condensate discharge, as some jurisdictions require neutralization before drain entry. The pump requires a 120V AC power source; confirm the outlet is properly grounded per NEC guidelines before energizing.
