The NORTON 78072784468 is a coated abrasive belt designed for dry precision finishing and deburring applications in metalworking and woodworking environments. Running on portable belt sanders and stationary finishing machines, this belt measures 1/2 inch wide by 18 inches long and carries a 180 grit, very fine grade aluminum oxide abrasive. The closed coat density maximizes surface contact for consistent scratch patterns and smooth finishes. The heavy-duty X-weight cloth backing resists tearing under tension and heat generated during extended use. It is part of the Norton R228 series, engineered for controlled stock removal and surface refinement on ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and wood substrates.
This belt is suited for light deburring, edge blending, and final finishing passes where surface finish quality matters. The 1/2 inch width fits narrow-profile belt sanders and file belt attachments commonly used by machinists, metal fabricators, and finish carpenters. The very fine 180 grit designation makes it appropriate for finish work following coarser material removal steps, producing a refined surface ready for coating, polishing, or inspection. Dry operation only — this belt is not rated for wet grinding or coolant-flood applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement abrasive belt for 1/2 inch x 18 inch belt sanders and file belt attachments operating in dry conditions.
Installation of abrasive belts should be performed by a qualified machine operator or maintenance technician. Power down and lock out the sander before changing belts. Confirm belt tracking direction — most belts have a recommended run direction indicated by an arrow on the inside of the belt. Inspect the platen, idler pulley, and drive drum for wear before mounting a new belt to ensure even contact and proper tracking.
