The NORTON 78072782866 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive material removal in dry grinding and finishing applications. Built on a heavy Y-weight cloth backing, this belt runs on portable and stationary belt sanders used by metalworkers, fabricators, and finishing technicians. The abrasive grain is zirconia alumina in a closed-coat configuration at 50 grit, placing it firmly in the coarse grade range. Zirconia alumina self-sharpens under pressure, making it well suited to stock removal on steel, stainless, and other hard metals where belt life and cut rate matter. The belt measures 3/4 inches wide by 20-1/2 inches long and weighs 0.3 pounds.
This belt fits narrow-contact belt grinders and file belt sanders commonly used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and weld grinding workflows. The 50-grit coarse grade is appropriate for weld seam removal, deburring, and initial shaping passes before moving to finer grits. Dry operation is required. The R821P series designation identifies this as part of Norton's zirconia alumina cloth belt line engineered for high-pressure grinding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Designed for use on belt grinders and file sanders accepting a 3/4 inch wide by 20-1/2 inch long abrasive belt. Verify machine belt path dimensions before installation.
Belt sanders and grinders must be fully powered down and unplugged before changing belts. Inspect the tracking adjustment and tension mechanism before seating the new belt. Ensure belt arrow or grain-direction marking, if present, aligns with the machine's direction of travel. Eye protection and gloves are required during installation and operation; grinding operations on metals may also require respiratory protection per site safety standards.
