The NORTON 78072780663 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive material removal in dry grinding and finishing applications. Built on a heavy Y-weight cloth backing with a closed-coat zirconia alumina grain at 50 grit, this belt delivers consistent cut rate and durability on ferrous metals, stainless steel, and hard alloys. The zirconia alumina abrasive self-sharpens under pressure, extending belt life compared to standard aluminum oxide belts. At 0.5 inches wide and 24 inches long, it fits compact belt grinders and file belt tools common in fabrication, maintenance, and weld blending work. Part of the NORTON R821P series, it is sold individually.
This belt is suited for narrow-platen and contact-arm configurations on 1/2-inch belt grinders used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and trade service environments. Typical applications include weld seam blending, deburring, edge breaking, and surface conditioning on steel and stainless components. The coarse 50-grit grade makes it appropriate for stock removal passes rather than finish work. Machinists, pipefitters, and metal fabricators are the primary installers and users of this consumable.
Designed to fit 1/2-inch by 24-inch belt grinders and file belt machines that accept standard coated abrasive belts of these dimensions.
Installation is performed by machinists, fabricators, or maintenance technicians familiar with abrasive belt equipment. Power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before changing belts. Verify belt tracking and tension per the equipment manufacturer guidelines before resuming operation. Always use appropriate eye and hand protection when handling and operating coated abrasive belts.
