The NORTON 78072736062 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive stock removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Built on a heavy-duty polyester cloth backing with an X-weight rating, it delivers the flexibility and tensile strength needed for portable belt sanders and stationary finishing machines. The abrasive grain is zirconia alumina in a closed-coat, 80-grit configuration, making it well-suited for fast cutting on hard materials where aluminum oxide belts wear too quickly. At 0.02 pounds per belt, it is a lightweight consumable that professional fabricators, pipefitters, and metalworkers cycle through regularly.
This belt measures 3/8 inches wide by 13 inches long, fitting compact file-belt sanders and detail grinding tools commonly used in tight spaces such as pipe joints, weld seams, and contoured workpieces. The R823P series is designed for both wet and dry operation, giving shop and field technicians flexibility depending on the material and finish requirement. It is commonly used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and pipefitting environments where consistent, repeatable surface prep is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement consumable for file-belt sanders and small stationary belt grinders accepting a 3/8 x 13-inch belt size.
Licensed tradespeople and shop technicians should power down and unplug the sander before changing belts. Verify belt tracking alignment before resuming operation to prevent edge wear or belt slippage. When operating at rated tool speed, ensure workpiece is secured and appropriate eye and hand PPE is worn per applicable shop safety standards.
