The NORTON 78072731152 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive material removal and fine finishing on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Built on a heavyweight polyester cloth backing with an X-weight designation, this belt handles the tension and heat of high-speed belt grinders and file belt machines. The abrasive material is zirconia alumina, a self-sharpening grain that maintains cut rate through extended use. At 180 grit, it falls in the very fine grade range, making it suited for final-pass surface conditioning and scratch refinement after coarser stock removal. The closed coat density ensures uniform surface contact across the full belt face.
This belt is part of the R823P series and measures 4 inches wide by 36 inches long, fitting standard 4 x 36 stationary belt sanders and portable units of the same platen size. It supports both wet and dry operation, giving technicians flexibility when working with coolant-assisted grinding setups or dry finishing applications. Typical users include metal fabricators, pipefitters, millwrights, and maintenance trades performing weld seam blending, deburring, and surface prep on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement belt for stationary and portable belt sanders and grinders accepting a 4 inch by 36 inch abrasive belt.
Installation should be performed by qualified personnel familiar with abrasive belt machinery. Power down and lock out the machine before changing belts. Verify belt tracking alignment and tension before resuming operation. Follow the machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable ANSI abrasive safety standards when mounting and running coated abrasive belts.
