The NORTON 78072727850 is a coated abrasive belt designed for heavy stock removal and aggressive material grinding applications. Built on an X-weight cloth backing, it uses a zirconia alumina abrasive grain at 40 grit, placing it firmly in the coarse grade range. Zirconia alumina is a self-sharpening grain that fractures under pressure to expose fresh cutting edges, making it well suited for high-pressure belt grinding on metal, weld seams, and hard materials. The X-weight cloth backing provides the rigidity and tear resistance needed for demanding production and fabrication work.
This belt measures 10 inches wide by 70.5 inches long. It is intended for use on large stationary or floor-standing belt grinders and wide belt machines common in metal fabrication shops, structural steel work, and industrial finishing environments. The 40 grit coarse cut is appropriate for rapid material removal, weld grinding, and surface conditioning before moving to finer grits. Metal fabricators and tool-and-die shops are the primary users of this belt size and grit combination.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit abrasive belt for large stationary belt grinders and wide belt grinding machines that accept a 10 inch by 70.5 inch belt.
Abrasive belts of this size are installed and changed by machinists, metal fabricators, or maintenance technicians familiar with the specific grinder model. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing a belt. Confirm belt tension and tracking per the machine manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the contact wheel and platen for wear or damage each time the belt is replaced.
