The NORTON 78072721999 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive material removal on belt sanders and similar power abrasive tools. Built on a heavyweight X-weight cloth backing, it runs dry and delivers consistent stock removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. The closed-coat construction packs aluminum oxide abrasive across the full belt surface, maintaining an active cutting face throughout the belt's service life. At 50 grit coarse grade, this belt is suited to rough shaping, weld blending, and surface preparation tasks where fast cutting action is the priority. Fabricators, metalworkers, and finishing trades reach for this belt when initial stock removal speed matters more than final surface finish.
This belt fits belt sanders and stationary or portable abrasive machines that accept a 3-1/2 inch wide by 15-1/2 inch long belt. The R228 series designation identifies the cloth-backed, closed-coat, aluminum oxide construction within the Norton lineup. It is a dry-use belt and is not rated for wet grinding or coolant-flooded operations. Typical applications include weld seam blending, pipe and structural steel prep, metal fabrication cleanup, and heavy wood stock removal in shop and field environments.
Designed to fit belt sanders and abrasive machines that accept a 3-1/2 inch wide by 15-1/2 inch long abrasive belt in dry-use applications.
Abrasive belts are installed by trained trades, fabricators, or shop personnel familiar with belt sander equipment. Power down and disconnect the machine from its power source before changing belts. Confirm belt tracking direction matches the arrow marked on the belt backing before operating. Inspect the belt for tears or splice separation before each use and replace immediately if damage is found.
