The NORTON 78072718708 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive material removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Built on a heavy-duty polyester backing with a closed-coat ceramic alumina grain at 60 grit, this belt delivers consistent cut rates and extended service life compared to conventional aluminum oxide belts. Ceramic alumina is a self-sharpening abrasive that fractures under pressure to expose fresh cutting edges, making it well-suited for high-pressure grinding and stock removal applications. The closed-coat construction maximizes grain coverage across the belt surface. At 0.5 inches wide and 24 inches long, this belt fits compact file belt grinders and detail sanders commonly used in fabrication and finishing work.
This belt is rated for both wet and dry operation, giving technicians and fabricators flexibility depending on the material and the machine setup. The 60 grit coarse grade is appropriate for initial stock removal, weld blending, deburring, and surface conditioning on steel, stainless, titanium, and hard alloys. It is a common choice in metal fabrication shops, tool and die work, and maintenance grinding where fast cut and heat resistance are priorities. The Y-weight polyester backing resists tearing and stretching under high belt tension and contact pressure.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit abrasive belt for file belt grinders and narrow-contact-wheel grinders accepting a 0.5 inch wide by 24 inch long belt.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive belt grinder equipment. Power down and disconnect the machine before mounting or replacing any abrasive belt. Verify belt tracking and tension per the machine manufacturer guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears, fraying, or joint separation prior to each use and replace immediately if damage is found.
