The NORTON 77696090141 is a Type 27 ceramic alumina flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on angle grinders and right-angle grinders used in metal fabrication, welding prep, and surface conditioning work. Built with a plastic backing for rigidity and vibration dampening, this disc runs at up to 12,000 RPM and delivers consistent coarse-grade cutting action. The 40-grit ceramic alumina abrasive is engineered for self-sharpening performance, which extends disc life and maintains cut rate under load. It fits a standard 5/8-11 arbor and measures 5 inches in diameter, making it compatible with the most common 5-inch angle grinder platforms used in the trade.
This flap disc is suited for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, weld seam grinding, deburring, edge blending, and stock removal on structural steel, pipe, and fabricated components. The Type 27 flat-profile geometry makes it the right choice for flat surface work and inside contours where a depressed-center disc would have difficulty maintaining consistent contact. It is used by fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and maintenance welders in both shop and field environments.
Designed for use with 5-inch angle grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 threaded spindle. Verify that the grinder's no-load RPM rating does not exceed the disc's 12,000 RPM maximum before mounting.
Installation should be performed by the operator prior to use following the grinder manufacturer's guard and flange requirements. Always power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before mounting or removing any abrasive disc. Confirm the disc RPM rating meets or exceeds the tool's rated speed, and inspect the disc for damage before each use. Applicable safety standards include ANSI B7.1 and OSHA 1910.215 for abrasive wheel machinery.
