The NORTON 77696008407 is a ceramic alumina coated fiber disc engineered for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and high-tensile alloys. Part of the F981 series, this disc uses a resinoid bond to lock ceramic alumina grains onto a fiber backing, delivering consistent cut rates and extended disc life compared to standard aluminum oxide. At 24 grit, it falls in the very coarse grade range, making it the right choice for heavy stock removal, scale removal, and surface prep before finishing passes. Licensed grinding and fabrication professionals will find this disc sized for standard 5-inch angle grinders and disc grinders with a 7/8-inch arbor hole attachment.
This disc is suited for fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field metalwork where fast, heavy material removal is the priority. The ceramic alumina grain self-sharpens under pressure, sustaining cut rate through the disc life. The red fiber backing provides rigidity for flat and contour grinding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. This disc is sold individually and carries a minimum order quantity of 25 units, making it appropriate for shop stocking and contractor supply purchases.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or shop-stock coated abrasive for 5-inch disc grinders and angle grinders fitted with a 7/8-inch arbor hole backing pad.
Install and remove fiber discs only with the grinder powered off and unplugged or the battery pack removed. Inspect the disc for cracks, tears, or missing segments before each use and discard any damaged disc immediately. Confirm the grinder free-speed rating meets or exceeds the 10,000 RPM maximum disc speed before mounting. ANSI B7.1 and applicable OSHA standards govern the safe use of coated abrasive discs in grinding operations.
