The NORTON 69957398015 is a ceramic alumina fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and heavy stock. Built on a resinoid bond with a fiber backing, this 9.125-inch disc runs at up to 6600 RPM and delivers very coarse, 24-grit cutting action suited to grinding, blending, and surface conditioning tasks. The orange-colored disc mounts via a standard 0.875-inch arbor hole to compatible angle grinder and disc sander backing pads. It is part of the NORTON R980 series, engineered for high-pressure grinding applications where fast cut rate and extended disc life are priorities.
This disc is used in fabrication shops, structural steel work, weld prep, and heavy-duty surface grinding. Its very coarse 24-grit ceramic alumina abrasive makes it effective on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous metals where rapid stock removal is required. The fiber backing provides the rigidity needed for high-pressure grinding passes. Licensed trades including ironworkers, pipefitters, and metal fabricators commonly use this disc size for large-diameter angle grinders in production environments.
Designed as a direct-mount replacement or standard coated abrasive fiber disc for angle grinders and disc sanders fitted with a 9.125-inch backing pad and 0.875-inch arbor hole.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B7.1 and tool manufacturer safety guidelines. Ensure the grinder is unplugged or the power source is locked out before mounting or removing the disc. Verify the tool RPM rating meets or exceeds 6600 RPM and that the backing pad diameter matches the disc diameter before use. Never exceed the maximum rated RPM marked on the disc.
