The NORTON 69957370201 is a 7-inch ceramic alumina fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and hard surfaces. Part of the F970 series, it carries a 36-grit, very coarse abrasive rating suited for rapid stock removal and surface conditioning. The ceramic alumina grain is bonded to a fiber backing with a resinoid bond, delivering consistent cut rate under sustained pressure. Attachment is via a standard 7/8-inch arbor hole, making it compatible with most right-angle grinders used in fabrication, structural steel work, and industrial maintenance environments. Licensed tradespeople in metal fabrication, welding, and pipefitting are the primary installers and users of this disc type.
This disc is well suited for demanding grinding applications where high material removal rates are required. Typical use cases include weld blending, surface preparation before coating, deburring heavy plate, and flash removal on castings. The very coarse 36-grit cut makes it appropriate for initial-pass work rather than finishing passes. It performs on ferrous metals and similarly hard substrate materials. The disc is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 25 units, making it practical for shop stock or fleet service truck inventory.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fiber disc for use with standard 7-inch right-angle grinders accepting a 7/8-inch arbor hole attachment.
Fiber discs of this type are installed and operated by metal fabricators, welders, and maintenance mechanics following standard grinding safety procedures. Always verify the grinder's rated RPM meets or exceeds the disc's 8600 RPM maximum before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and do not exceed the rated speed. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield, gloves, and hearing protection during operation, in accordance with ANSI B11 and applicable workplace safety codes.
