The NORTON 69957349782 is a 7-inch ceramic alumina fiber disc engineered for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and heavy stock. Rated at 24 grit (very coarse grade), it cuts fast and runs cool compared to conventional aluminum oxide abrasives. The resinoid bond locks abrasive grains firmly to the fiber backing, maintaining consistent cut rates through demanding applications. A threaded arbor hole with a 5/8-11 center thread mates directly with Norton Speed-Change back-up pads, eliminating the need for separate hardware at disc changes. Maximum operating speed is 8,600 RPM. This disc is installed by metal fabricators, welders, and pipefitters performing weld blending, deburring, and surface conditioning.
This fiber disc is suited for grinding and blending operations on structural steel, pipe, plate, and fabricated assemblies in both shop and field environments. The very coarse 24-grit cut rate makes it appropriate for rapid stock removal rather than finish work. It is designed for use with a compatible angle grinder fitted with the Norton Speed-Change back-up pad system. Its orange disc color aids visual identification of grit and series on the job site. The F980 series designation places it within Norton's heavy-duty coated abrasive line intended for metalworking applications.
Designed for use with the Norton Speed-Change back-up pad system. The 5/8-11 threaded arbor hole attachment type is compatible with angle grinders accepting that arbor thread size.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified personnel familiar with powered abrasive tools and applicable ANSI B7 safety standards. Confirm the grinder spindle speed does not exceed the 8,600 RPM disc rating before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and never use a damaged disc. Wear appropriate PPE including face shield, hearing protection, and gloves during grinding operations.
