The NORTON 69936662101 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel designed for precision material removal on ferrous metals. Built from aluminum oxide abrasive in a vitrified bond matrix, this wheel delivers consistent stock removal and shape retention across wet and dry grinding operations. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 0.5 inches thick, with a 1.25-inch arbor hole. The 46-grit, coarse-grade construction and I hardness rating place it firmly in the medium-hardness category, making it well suited to aggressive yet controlled surface grinding. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC tool room operators are the primary installers and users.
This wheel is intended for surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, and CNC cutting tool machine applications. It performs on hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and tool steels. The ruby-colored aluminum oxide grain and vitrified bond are optimized for flat surface work where dimensional accuracy and surface finish consistency are required. Its non-porous, non-recessed, non-tapered profile fits standard surface grinder arbors in tool rooms and production grinding cells.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and tool steels. Fits standard 1.25-inch arbor spindles.
Grinding wheel mounting must be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B11.9 and applicable OSHA standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing a wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before installation using the ring test, and never exceed the stated maximum RPM of 3,105. Use properly sized flanges and blotters, and run the wheel under guard at operating speed for at least one minute before bringing it into contact with the workpiece.
