The NORTON 69014191854 is a Type 1A1 diamond surface grinding wheel designed for precision flat grinding and roughing operations on hard, difficult-to-grind materials. It uses synthetic diamond (SD) abrasive bonded in a resinoid matrix at 100 concentration, which delivers consistent stock removal and extended wheel life compared to conventional abrasive wheels. The wheel measures 7 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole and a 1/4 inch superabrasive depth. At 120 grit in a Fine grade with an R hardness code (Soft rating), it is suited for controlled material removal where surface finish matters. Wet operation is required. Licensed grinding professionals and tool room machinists are the primary installers and operators.
This wheel is used in surface grinding applications on carbide, ceramics, glass, and other hard or brittle materials that conventional aluminum oxide or silicon carbide wheels cannot handle efficiently. The Type 1A1 straight wheel configuration fits standard surface grinder spindles and is commonly used in both production and tool room environments. Surface grinding wheels must be installed, dressed, and operated by qualified grinding professionals following ANSI B7.1 safety standards and the machine manufacturer guidelines. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing the wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before installation and perform a ring test per ANSI procedures. Use the correct flanges and blotters rated for the wheel diameter and never exceed the maximum operating speed marked on the wheel.
