The NORTON 66623399148 is a Type 27 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and fabricated surfaces. The 5-inch disc features a 7/8-inch arbor hole and runs at a maximum of 12,000 RPM on compatible angle grinders. Backed by a durable cloth substrate, the zirconia alumina abrasive grain self-sharpens under pressure, maintaining cut rate through the life of the disc. At 36 grit, this is a very coarse grade tool suited for rapid stock removal, weld blending, and surface prep before finishing passes.
This flap disc fits standard 5-inch angle grinders and is used in metal fabrication shops, structural steel work, and general welding applications. The Type 27 flat-profile configuration keeps the disc face parallel to the workpiece, making it well suited for flat surface grinding and blending. The trimmable design allows the operator to expose fresh abrasive material as the flaps wear, extending usable disc life. Typical users include fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and maintenance welders working on mild steel, stainless, and similar ferrous materials.
Designed for use on standard 5-inch angle grinders with a 7/8-inch arbor. Verify that the grinder's rated no-load RPM does not exceed 12,000 RPM before mounting this disc.
Flap discs of this type are installed and removed by licensed trades or qualified operators using appropriate angle grinder wrenches. Always power down and unplug or lock out the grinder before mounting or changing the disc. Confirm the grinder guard is in place and that the disc is rated at or above the tool's maximum RPM before operation. Wear appropriate eye and face protection per ANSI and applicable shop safety requirements.
