The NORTON 666233-55598 is a ceramic alumina fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal and other hard surfaces. Sold in a pack of 25, each disc measures 5 inches in diameter with a 7/8-inch arbor hole, making it compatible with standard angle grinders and disc grinders used in fabrication, welding prep, and surface conditioning work. The 36-grit cut provides fast stock removal on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous metals. Ceramic alumina grain self-sharpens during use, maintaining a consistent cut rate over the life of the disc and reducing the frequency of disc changes on the job.
These fiber discs are suited for heavy grinding, weld blending, and surface preparation in industrial, manufacturing, and metal fabrication environments. The Merit FX965 designation identifies the disc series and backing specification. Applications include deburring, scale removal, and weld seam blending on structural steel, pipe, and plate. The coarse 36-grit rating makes this disc a first-pass tool where significant material needs to be cleared before finishing steps begin. Metal fabricators, pipefitters, and ironworkers are the primary users in both shop and field settings.
Designed for use with standard 5-inch angle grinders and disc grinders equipped with a 7/8-inch arbor. Verify tool RPM rating does not exceed the disc's maximum rated speed before use.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the grinder unplugged or the battery pack removed. Inspect the fiber disc for cracks, tears, or delamination before mounting — do not use a damaged disc. Secure the disc with the appropriate backing pad rated for fiber discs; never run a fiber disc without a rigid or semi-rigid backing pad. Wear appropriate PPE including face shield, gloves, and hearing protection during operation, in accordance with applicable ANSI and OSHA grinding safety standards.
