The NORTON 666233-55597 is a ceramic alumina fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. Built on the Merit FX965 platform, this disc uses ceramic alumina abrasive grain, which self-sharpens during use to maintain a consistent cut rate and extend disc life compared to conventional aluminum oxide options. At 24 grit, it is suited for heavy stock removal, weld blending, and surface prep work. Fabricators, welders, and metal finishing professionals are the primary users of this disc type.
This disc fits a 5-inch right-angle grinder with a 7/8-inch arbor hole, making it compatible with the most common angle grinders used in fabrication shops, structural steel work, and on-site metal prep. The 24-grit classification places it in the coarse category, appropriate for rapid removal of mill scale, rust, paint, and excess weld material. It is sold in a package of 25 discs, which suits production environments and contractors who cycle through abrasives at a high rate.
Designed for use on 5-inch right-angle grinders with a 7/8-inch arbor. Suitable for grinding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in fabrication, welding, and structural steel applications.
Fiber discs must be mounted on a matched backup pad rated for the disc diameter and the grinder RPM. Always verify the grinder and backup pad maximum RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc rating before use. Wear appropriate PPE including face shield and gloves. Inspect each disc for damage before mounting and never use a cracked or delaminated disc.
