The NORTON 66261183501 is a Type 29 coated flap disc designed for aggressive stock removal and blending on metal surfaces. Built around a zirconia alumina abrasive on a fiberglass backing, this 80-grit medium-grade disc delivers consistent cut rates across extended use cycles. The Type 29 conical geometry increases surface contact on flat and contoured workpieces, making it well-suited for weld blending, deburring, and surface conditioning. It is rated to a maximum of 8,500 RPM and mounts via a 5/8-11 threaded arbor hole for compatibility with standard right-angle grinders. Fabricators, welders, and pipefitters are the primary installers.
This disc is engineered for use on steels, stainless steel, and titanium — materials common in structural fabrication, process piping, and light manufacturing. The zirconia alumina grain self-sharpens under pressure, sustaining cut rate on hard alloys without loading. The fiberglass backing provides rigidity and vibration resistance during heavy lateral passes. It is part of the NORTON R980P series, which targets professional-grade metal grinding and finishing applications in both shop and field environments.
Designed for use on steels, stainless steel, and titanium with any standard right-angle grinder equipped with a 5/8-11 threaded spindle, operating at or below 8,500 RPM. Part of the NORTON R980P flap disc series.
Installation and operation should be performed by trained personnel following ANSI B7.1 and applicable shop safety standards. Verify the grinder spindle speed does not exceed the 8,500 RPM disc rating before mounting. Thread the disc fully onto the 5/8-11 arbor by hand before applying tool torque, and inspect the disc for damage prior to each use. Always wear appropriate PPE including a face shield, gloves, and hearing protection during grinding operations.
