The NORTON 662611-38601 is a 5-inch zirconia alumina fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. Built on the NorZon F826 bond system, this disc uses zirconia alumina abrasive grain, which self-sharpens under pressure to maintain a consistent cut rate throughout the disc life. At 60 grit, it sits in the coarse range, making it well suited for weld blending, surface prep, and heavy stock removal. These discs are sold in a package of 25 and fit standard 7/8-inch arbor angle grinders. They are installed by metal fabricators, HVAC sheet metal workers, and pipefitters who need reliable, high-cut performance on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
These fiber discs are used in fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field service applications where angle grinders are the primary tool. Common tasks include deburring, rust and scale removal, and preparing pipe and plate surfaces before welding or coating. The 5-inch diameter is a widely used size for handheld angle grinders in both residential and light commercial mechanical work. HVAC installers and plumbers working with sheet metal ductwork or pipe flanges will find the 60-grit cut rate effective for surface conditioning prior to fitting or brazing.
Designed for use with standard 5-inch angle grinders equipped with a 7/8-inch arbor. Suitable for grinding ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other hard materials where aggressive material removal is required.
Fiber discs are installed and replaced by the operator before or during grinding operations — no licensed trade certification is required, but proper PPE including eye protection and gloves is mandatory. Always confirm the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and discard any disc that shows signs of delamination. Power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before changing discs.
