The NORTON 662611-38600 is a zirconia alumina fiber disc engineered for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. Built on the NorZon F826 specification, this disc uses a zirconia alumina abrasive grain that self-sharpens under pressure, maintaining a consistent cut rate throughout the disc life. At 5 inches in diameter with a 7/8 inch arbor hole and an 80 grit rating, it sits in the medium-coarse range — suited for weld blending, deburring, and surface conditioning on structural steel, stainless, and other ferrous metals. Sold in packs of 25, these discs are a standard consumable for fabrication shops and field metal work.
This fiber disc is used in angle grinder applications across industrial fabrication, welding shops, and mechanical contractors working with steel plate, pipe, and structural members. The 80 grit designation makes it appropriate for initial surface preparation, removing mill scale, weld splatter, and light rust before moving to a finer finish step. Typical users include ironworkers, pipefitters, and welders who need a reliable, high-cutting disc for repetitive grinding tasks on ferrous and some non-ferrous substrates.
Designed for use with standard 5 inch angle grinders and disc grinders equipped with a 7/8 inch arbor. Suitable for grinding ferrous metals including structural steel, stainless steel, and cast iron.
Installation of fiber discs is performed by the operator using the appropriate backing pad rated for the disc diameter and arbor size. Always ensure the grinder is unplugged or the power source is isolated before mounting or removing a disc. Verify the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating before operation. Wear appropriate PPE including face shield and gloves when grinding.
