The NORTON 66254461183 is a Type 29 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on angle grinders. It carries a 40-grit coarse rating, making it suited for weld grinding, surface prep, and stock removal on steel, stainless steel, and other hard metals. The cloth-backed construction supports the zirconia alumina abrasive flaps, which fracture during use to expose fresh cutting edges and sustain cut rate throughout the disc life. Rated at 8,600 RPM maximum, the disc fits a 7/8 inch arbor hole. The Type 29 conical geometry positions the abrasive at an angle to the workpiece, increasing surface contact and grinding aggressiveness compared to a flat Type 27 profile.
This disc is intended for use on 7-inch angle grinders in fabrication shops, welding operations, and metal finishing applications. Typical tasks include blending welds, removing mill scale, deburring plate edges, and rough-shaping metal surfaces. The coarse 40-grit cut level is appropriate for high-stock-removal passes where surface finish is secondary to speed. It is installed and used by welders, fabricators, pipefitters, and maintenance mechanics working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals in both shop and field environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement flap disc for use with 7-inch angle grinders equipped with a 7/8 inch arbor spindle.
Flap discs are installed and replaced by welders, fabricators, and metalworkers following standard angle grinder procedures. Always confirm the grinder's rated RPM meets or exceeds the disc's 8,600 RPM maximum before mounting. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and never exceed the maximum RPM stamped on the disc. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield and grinding gloves, and ensure the grinder guard is in place before operation.
