The NORTON 66253364300 is a Type 5 recessed surface grinding wheel engineered for aggressive material removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It measures 14 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, making it sized for medium to large capacity surface and cylindrical grinders. The abrasive is aluminum oxide bonded in a vitrified matrix, designated by the specification code 32A46-IVBE. At 46 grit with an I hardness code and coarse grade classification, this wheel cuts fast on hard materials without loading quickly. It is installed and dressed by experienced grinding machine operators in industrial, maintenance, and toolroom environments.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding and cylindrical grinding applications across a broad range of materials. Rated material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The Type 5 profile features a single-side recess 0.5 inches deep and 8 inches in diameter, reducing wheel weight while maintaining the structural integrity needed for production grinding passes. It is appropriate for both job shop and production floor use where consistent stock removal rates are required.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders accepting a Type 5 wheel with a 14-inch diameter, 5-inch arbor hole, and 1.5-inch face width. Confirmed compatible material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Mounting and dressing of grinding wheels should be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 requirements for abrasive wheel machinery. Before installation, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using a ring test, and verify the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 1800 RPM maximum marked on the wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing the wheel. Always use proper blotter gaskets between the wheel and flanges, and dress the wheel before the first pass to true the face and expose fresh abrasive.
