The NORTON 66253364105 is a Type 5 ceramic surface grinding wheel built for demanding material removal on ferrous metals and superalloys. It measures 14 inches in diameter and 1-1/2 inches thick, with a 5-inch arbor hole and a one-side recess 1/2 inch deep by 8 inches in diameter. The wheel carries a 60 grit, J hardness (medium grade) rating and uses a vitrified bond with a semi-friable, porous ceramic abrasive grain. Maximum operating speed is 1800 RPM. This wheel is used by machinists and toolroom grinders requiring aggressive stock removal with consistent surface finish on hard-to-grind materials.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding and cylindrical grinding applications in production and toolroom environments. Recommended material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, superalloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The vitrified bond provides good rigidity and free-cutting action, making it a practical choice where heat-sensitive materials or tight tolerances require controlled grinding conditions. The blue, porous wheel structure promotes coolant flow and chip clearance during extended cuts.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, superalloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron as stated by the manufacturer.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing the wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before installation using the ring test; never mount a damaged wheel. Confirm that the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 1800 RPM maximum rating marked on the wheel.
