The NORTON 66253319954 is a Type 5 surface grinding wheel engineered for aggressive material removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. Built with a ceramic abrasive grain and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cut rates and long service life under the thermal and mechanical demands of surface and cylindrical grinding operations. It measures 14 inches in diameter, 1.5 inches thick, with a 5-inch center hole and a one-side recess measuring 8 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches deep. The 46-grit coarse grade and H hardness rating make it well suited for rapid stock removal where surface finish is secondary to throughput. Maximum operating speed is 2320 RPM.
This wheel is intended for use on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders in industrial and tool-room environments. It is rated for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The semi-friable ceramic grain continuously self-sharpens as it fractures, reducing glazing and heat buildup during extended grinding passes. The 3SG Type 5 series designation identifies it within the NORTON structured ceramic line.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Rated material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Series designation is 3SG Type 5, specification 3SGR46-HVP2.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machine operator or toolroom technician following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 general industry standards. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing the wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before installation using the ring test, and never exceed the rated maximum speed of 2320 RPM. Use appropriate flanges, blotters, and a properly fitted arbor for the 5-inch center hole before torquing to the grinder spindle.
