The NORTON 66253319936 is a Type 5 recessed surface grinding wheel engineered for heavy-stock removal on hard ferrous metals and exotic alloys. Built on a vitrified bond with a ceramic abrasive grain, this wheel delivers consistent cut rate and form-holding under both wet and dry operating conditions. At 14 inches in diameter and 2 inches thick, it is sized for production surface grinders and cylindrical grinders where aggressive material removal is required. The 46 grit, G hardness (coarse grade, soft hardness rating) combination keeps the wheel free-cutting on hard, heat-sensitive workpiece materials. Maximum operating speed is 2320 RPM. Weight is 20.5 pounds.
This wheel is suited for professional grinding operations in job shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing environments. The 3SG ceramic grain series is engineered for demanding material applications where conventional aluminum oxide wheels wear too quickly or generate excessive heat. It is appropriate for surface grinder and cylindrical grinder setups requiring a recessed Type 5 configuration. Wet or dry coolant operation is supported, giving operators flexibility based on machine setup and workpiece requirements.
Designed for use on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders accepting a Type 5 wheel with a 5-inch arbor hole, 14-inch diameter, and 2-inch thickness. Suitable material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing must be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding machine operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always perform a ring test before mounting and inspect the wheel for cracks or damage. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Never exceed the 2320 RPM maximum operating speed stamped on the wheel.
