The NORTON 66253263403 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built with an aluminum oxide abrasive grain and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent, controlled cutting action across a range of surface grinding applications. It measures 12 inches in diameter, 2 inches thick, with a 5-inch arbor hole. The 46-grit coarse grade removes material efficiently, while the H hardness rating (soft-to-medium range on the hardness scale) allows the wheel to break down and expose fresh abrasive during use. Maximum operating speed is 2070 RPM. The wheel carries an internal spec designation of 32A46-HVBE. At 15.96 pounds, it is sized for production-level surface grinders.
This wheel is suited for use on horizontal-spindle surface grinders in machine shops, toolrooms, and metalworking facilities handling light to medium production grinding. The coarse 46-grit cut is well matched to roughing passes where material removal rate matters more than fine surface finish. The vitrified bond provides rigidity and porosity that supports coolant flow, making it appropriate for wet grinding setups commonly found in commercial and industrial shop environments. Licensed machinists and grinding machine operators are the primary installers and users of this product.
Designed as a standard Type 1 straight surface grinding wheel for use on horizontal-spindle surface grinders accepting a 5-inch arbor hole and compatible with wheels rated at 2070 RPM or lower operating speeds.
Installation and wheel changes must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety requirements for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing the wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and never exceed the maximum rated speed of 2070 RPM. Flanges must be clean, flat, and sized correctly for the 5-inch arbor hole before securing the wheel.
