The NORTON 66253262510 is a Type 1 vitrified ceramic surface grinding wheel designed for aggressive material removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. Measuring 12 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, this wheel carries a 46-grit coarse grade and K hardness rating, placing it in the medium-hard range for consistent stock removal without excessive loading. The ceramic abrasive grain is semi-friable, meaning it self-sharpens as it breaks down, maintaining a sharp cutting face throughout the wheel's service life. It is rated to a maximum of 2070 RPM and is intended for use by machinists and grinding technicians on production and tool-room surface grinders.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, and CNC cutting tool machine applications in both production shop and job-shop environments. It is engineered for use on demanding materials including 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The vitrified bond provides a porous, free-cutting structure that helps evacuate chips and reduces heat buildup at the workpiece, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance surface finishing work where thermal damage is a concern.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Rated for the following material applications as specified by the manufacturer: 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Series designation is 5SG Type 1, specification code 5SG46-KVS.
Mounting and dressing of grinding wheels should be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding technician following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 standards. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and perform a ring test. Machine must be de-energized and locked out before installing or changing the wheel. Never exceed the 2070 RPM maximum speed rating marked on the wheel or specified for this part.
