The NORTON 66253246905 is a Type 1 straight surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal on a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive and a vitrified bond, it delivers consistent cut rates and long wheel life under continuous machine use. The wheel measures 12 inches in diameter, 1 inch thick, with a 5-inch arbor hole, and is rated for a maximum speed of 2,705 RPM. At 46 grit with an I hardness code, it falls in the coarse grade range, making it well-suited for aggressive material removal where surface finish is a secondary concern. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die shops, and grinding specialists are the primary installers and operators of this wheel.
This wheel is rated for use on 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. It is intended for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. The non-porous, non-tapered, non-recessed Type 1 profile makes it a straightforward fit for standard surface grinding spindle setups. It belongs to the NORTON 32A Type 1 series, which is engineered for consistent performance across production grinding environments.
Rated for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Part of the NORTON 32A Type 1 series.
Grinding wheel mounting should be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 guidelines for abrasive wheel machinery. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or damage before mounting and perform a ring test on vitrified wheels before use. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and verify that the machine spindle speed does not exceed the wheel maximum RPM rating of 2,705. Use proper flanges and blotters as specified by the grinder manufacturer.
