The NORTON 66253246858 is a Type 5 vitrified aluminum oxide surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Measuring 12 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, this wheel carries a 46-grit coarse grade and J hardness code, placing it in the medium hardness range. The vitrified bond provides rigidity and free-cutting action at speeds up to 2705 RPM. It is installed and operated by machinists and grinding technicians on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders in production and tool-room environments.
This wheel is suited for aggressive material removal on a broad range of workpiece materials including 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The one-side recessed profile (Type 5 geometry) with a 7.5-inch recess diameter and 0.5-inch recess depth allows clearance for flanges and mounting hardware on compatible spindle configurations. It is a practical choice for high-volume surface grinding operations where coarse stock removal is required before finishing passes.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders accepting a 5-inch arbor hole and Type 5 wheel geometry. Compatible material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Grinding wheel installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding technician following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 requirements for abrasive wheel machinery. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and never exceed the rated 2705 RPM maximum speed. Ensure the machine spindle, flanges, and blotter paper are clean and properly seated before tightening. Power down and lock out the machine before performing any wheel change.
