The NORTON 66253246855 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for precision flat-surface grinding on a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive and a vitrified bond, it delivers consistent stock removal and a controlled finish across demanding production and tool-room applications. The wheel measures 8 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole, and is rated to a maximum of 3600 RPM. At 60 grit with an H hardness code and medium grade, it is well-suited for moderate material removal where surface finish and wheel integrity are both priorities. Grinding and tool-room machinists are the primary installers and operators.
This wheel is designed for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in industrial, production, and job-shop environments. It performs on a broad material range including 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The non-porous, non-tapered, non-recessed Type 1 straight-wheel profile makes it a standard fit for conventional reciprocating and rotary surface grinding setups.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and ensure the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM maximum marked on the wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Use proper flanges and blotters as specified by the machine manufacturer and ANSI standards.
