The NORTON 66253246843 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for precision stock removal on soft carbon steels and tool steels. Built around an aluminum oxide abrasive grain bonded with a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cut rates and free-cutting action across production grinding applications. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole, and carries a 46 grit coarse grade with an I hardness rating. Maximum operating speed is rated at 3,105 RPM. At 3.73 pounds, the wheel suits manual and automated surface grinding setups where repeatable flatness is required.
This wheel is designed for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. The coarse 46 grit removes material efficiently on softer workpiece materials, including soft carbon steels and tool steels, where aggressive stock removal takes priority over fine finish work. The porous structure promotes chip clearance and reduces heat buildup during extended grinding passes. Licensed trades machinists, toolroom operators, and production grinders are the primary installers and users of this wheel type.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Rated for material applications including soft carbon steels and tool steels. Part of the Gemini Precision Vitrified Grinding Wheels series, specification GEMINI 46-I.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 1910.215 wheel guarding requirements. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and perform a ring test. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Never exceed the rated maximum RPM of 3,105 printed on the wheel blotter.
