The NORTON 66253246840 is a Type 5 surface grinding wheel engineered for precision stock removal on a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cut rate and predictable wear across the full working face. It measures 7 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The 60 grit, K hardness rating places it squarely in the medium grade range, making it well suited for general-purpose surface and cylindrical grinding where balance between cut speed and surface finish is required. The wheel weighs 2.86 pounds and carries a maximum operating speed of 3600 RPM.
This wheel is designed for use on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders in both production shop and toolroom environments. Its material application range covers 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The one-sided recess configuration — 3 inches recess diameter, 1/2 inch recess depth — accommodates standard flange mounting on compatible machines. It is a practical choice for maintenance shops, fabrication facilities, and grinding operations that work across multiple material types without changing wheels frequently.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Compatible material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Series designation is 32A Type 5.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machine operator or toolroom professional following the machine manufacturer specifications and ANSI B11.9 safety standards. Before installation, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test and verify that the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM maximum rating stamped on the wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Always use proper flanges and blotters as specified for Type 5 wheels and dress the wheel after mounting before returning the machine to service.
