The NORTON 66253246811 is a Type 1 straight surface grinding wheel engineered for heavy-stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from aluminum oxide abrasive with a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cut rate and long service life on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. It measures 14 inches in diameter, 2 inches thick, with a 5-inch arbor hole. The 46-grit coarse grade and J hardness rating make it well-suited for aggressive material removal applications where surface finish requirements are secondary to stock removal rate. Maximum operating speed is 2,320 RPM. Wheel weight is 11.43 pounds.
This wheel is appropriate for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in both production shop and maintenance environments. Material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The coarse grit and medium hardness rating allow the wheel to cut freely through tough alloys without glazing prematurely, making it a practical choice for high-volume grinding operations.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron workpieces.
Grinding wheel installation and dressing must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 safety standards. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test — do not mount a damaged wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and ensure the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 2,320 RPM maximum rating marked on the wheel. Always dress the wheel with an appropriate dressing tool before first use to true the face and expose fresh abrasive.
