The NORTON 66253246809 is a Type 1 vitrified aluminum oxide surface grinding wheel designed for high-material-removal applications on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Measuring 14 inches in diameter and 2 inches thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, this wheel carries a 46-grit coarse grade with an I hardness code, rated to a maximum of 2320 RPM. The vitrified bond provides rigidity and free-cutting action across a broad range of base materials. At 11.43 pounds, it is built for production surface grinding and is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians on industrial surface grinders and CNC cutting tool machines.
This wheel is suited for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Its coarse 46-grit cut makes it most effective in stock-removal passes rather than finish-grinding operations. Typical applications include surface grinders and cylindrical grinders in machine shops, toolrooms, and production grinding environments where consistent cut rate and wheel life are priorities.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Installation and mounting of grinding wheels must be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding equipment operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 requirements. Always perform a ring test before mounting to check for cracks, and never exceed the maximum operating RPM of 2320. Confirm the machine spindle speed does not exceed the wheel rating before startup. Stand clear of the wheel plane during the initial startup run-out period.
